West Side Livery Stable

USA / New Jersey / West New York / West 38th Street, 538

4-story stable completed in 1903. It is clad in brick, painted light-grey on the front (north) and west facades. The ground floor has a red metal stable door (with a smaller inset pedestrian door) on the right), still retaining one of the original red cast-iron pilasters, which is fluted on the bottom and paneled on the top half. To the left is a window.

The upper floors have three bays of single-windows, with the middle one at the top floor replaced by an opening extending down to the base of this floor. There are red iron reinforcing bands placed around the facade between each floor, as well as four vertical bands around the bays at the top floor. Red metal grilles cover the middle windows at the 2nd & 3rd floors.

The long west facade has no openings, while the east elevation has a long row of 13 small, segmental-arched window openings across the 2nd floor, and four similar openings at the 3rd.
