The earliest mentions of this base that is available online are from 2011 including a blog post and a deleted news posts explaining that a VBIED attack occured there in July and that the base was expanded later that year. For most of the first half of the 2010s, American and Afghan military units were stationed there although from about 2014 onwards when ISAF ended, American military units ceased to be stationed there. The base suffered an attack by the Taliban that was repulsed by Afghan security forces on 7 November 2017. During the collapse of the Afghan government in 2021, the base and the nearby Police Academy were overrun by the Taliban on 3 July 2021. An image taken by Maxar on 29 March 2022 shows extensive damage to many buildings in the base likely as a result of fighting during the summer of 2021.
