The archaeological site of the ancient and medieval settlement of Heraion or Heraion Teikhos is located on the north shore of the Sea of Marmara, a little southwest of Yenice.

The town was founded by colonists from Samos in c.600 BC, and in 352 BC it was besieged and conquered by Philip II of Macedon, despite belated Athenian aid.
