canyon / gorge, National Natural Landmark
Middle Fork Canyon illustrates rocks deformed by the crustal movements that created the Rocky Mountains. It is an outstanding example of a canyon cut across the grain of the geologic structure by a superposed stream. Few places more clearly illustrate the effects of erosion and stream superposition.
