NYPL Kips Bay Library (New York City, New York)

USA / New Jersey / West New York / New York City, New York / Third Avenue, 446

2-story modernist library completed in 1976. Designed by Giorgio Cavaglieri, it is clad in variegated brown brick. The main entrance is at the south end of the east facade on the avenue, with glass double-doors in a glass surround. Above is a recessed band of windows at the 2nd floor. The center section of this facade projects out from above a black metal service door, with the projecting section angling up to the left. It continues above the roof line, with its upper edge also angling up to the south. The north end of the east facade has short window bands on both floors, with grey stone piers at the corner.

On the north side on 31st Street the window bands continue along most of the facade until the west end, where there is a 2-story glass curtain wall, and a black metal service door at the far end.
