210-foot, 19-story modernist residential building completed in 1965. Designed by Knappe & Johnson for the New York City Housing Authority, it is clad in red brick, and is the western part of a 2-tower complex. Together, the buildings contain 399 apartment units. Tower II's alternate address is 136 West 91st. Between the two towers is a broad, landscaped corridor connecting 90th & 91st Streets. Both towers are roughly T-shaped.
The south facade of the west tower's ground floor has a wide bay at the center, framed in steel, with a steel service door on the left, a glass door on the right, and 3-over-4 window panes in between. There is a square vent to the left. The south-facing walls of the cross of the "T" have five bays of multi-paned windows on the ground floor.
The upper floors of the south end of the south wing have four bays of windows - single-window outer bays and square double-window inner bays, except for the 2nd floor, which has all double-windows. The east- and west-facing sides of the south wing have seven bays, with single-window end bays and then double-windows to the north. The thinner "waist" section where the south wing joins the cross of the "T" has four bays of double-windows. The south-facing elevations of the cross of the "T" have two bays of single-windows flanking a bay of double-windows on both sides. The ends of the "T" both have a center bay of double-windows flanked by two bays of single-windows. The north facade has nine bays alternating single- and double-windows. The ground floor on the north facade has another wide entrance bay of steel-framed glass, with a plate-glass window bay to its left. This entrance is reached by a ramp from the east, and stairs on the right side, extending down to the sidewalk.
