Residence designed in the Georgian style c. 1898 for Virginia Graham Fair Vanderbilt during her marriage to William Kissam Vanderbilt, Jr. She had lived prior at "Deepdale" in Lakeville until 1911. Howard Major was commissioned to perform alterations c. 1918 for William Beard {capitalist, developer}. Beard was the owner of the Beard & Robinson dredging firm in Brooklyn which owned waterfront property in the Erie Basin.
