trestle (bridge), closed railways
Overgrown and partly burned, the wooden trestle bridge still holds rusting spur line tracks which lead from here northward (with adult trees grown up between them) toward the old Basic City Rail Car Works site. There were such big expectations for Basic City to be successful until the depression of 1893 tanked most of the businesses. Basic City the municipality went extinct in 1923 and was absorbed by neighboring Waynesboro, Virginia. Few remnants of the boomtown era of this area remain; this is one of them.
