The Lucin Cutoff carries the Union Pacific Railroad across the Great Salt Lake between Ogden, Utah and Lucin, Utah. It was built by Southern Pacific Company between February 1902 and March 1904 to bypass the original route (part of the First Transcontinental Railroad) across Promontory Summit.

The First Transcontinental Railroad was built in the 1860s by two companies, the Union Pacific (building west from Omaha) and the Central Pacific (building east from Sacramento). The two companies met at Promontory Summit, north of the Great Salt Lake, in May, 1869. After the Lucin Cutoff was opened in 1904, the original route over Promontory Point was abandoned.
