During 1910 the Gilmore and Pittsburgh built a 75 mile railroad line from Armstead, Montana across Bannock Pass at an elevation of about 7585' to the lead-silver mines at Gilmore Idaho. The G&P ceased running on April 30, 1939, and the railroad line was abandoned. America's railroads built 31 crossings over the Divide, of which 10 other crossings remain in use.
