Al-Qaryah is the downtown of Tabqa and a traditional Arab neighborhood with many Souqs. Arab neighborhood with around 8,000 inhabitants.
It has maintained its traditional style from the times before the Tabqa dam and Lake Assad, when Tabqa was a small regional town.
The local name al-Qaryah, "the village" alludes to this.
Predominantly populated by the al-Ghannam branch of the al-Ajīl, an Arab tribe of Raqqa governorate. From the time of the building of the Tabqa dam on, other Arabs came to al-Qaryah, too.
