The Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad had a floating pontoon bridge here crossing over the Mississippi River, connecting Reads Landing and Trevino. This was the start of a Milwaukee Road branch line which reached up to Eau Claire. The bridge was abandoned during 1952.
Railroad bridges were built at 56 locations to cross the Mississippi River, and 36 of these crossings are still in use by freight railroads.
