Red Wing is a city in Goodhue County, Minnesota. The population was 16,547 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Goodhue County.

Red Wing was location of a mission to the Dakota Indians in 1837. It was first settled for farming and Indian trading in 1850-52, platted in 1853, and designated the county seat in 1854. Red Wing incorporated as a city in 1857, and received new municipal charters in 1864 and 1887. The post office began in Wabasha County in 1850, known briefly as Wahcoota before transferring to Goodhue County as Red Wing. Early Red Wing had a station serving several railroad lines.
