lighthouse, United States Coast Guard, historic ruins
Foundations of the original lighthouse built at Cape Sarichef in 1903 and lit in 1904. It consisted of a wooden octagonal fog signal building with 3rd order fresnel lens installed in a tower on top of the fog signal building.
The Cape Sarichef light is the most isolated and westerly lighthouse in the U.S. Although quarters were originally built for the keepers and their families, dependents were not allowed to accompany the keepers to their duty station.
It was razed in 1950 by the Coast Guard and moved further up the cliff after the 1946 tsunami destroyed the Scotch Cap light and killed all of its crew.
