residence, LIGC - Long Island Gold Coast
Residence c. 1920 which was used as a summer home for Henry Clay Folger {industrialist}. Folger served as director and later president of Standard Oil Co. He and his wife Emily collected what is still the world's largest collection of Shakespeare-related materials while living in this home. The two planned to gift the materials to the nation in the form of a library which they would go on to plan and fund. Henry passed away in 1930, and his wife lived in the house for only a few years after that. Today their legacy lives on as the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington D.C.
