Second World War 1939-1945, hill, battlefield, historic landmark
This hill was so named in honor of the 50th Combat Engineer Battalion (Seabees), who repulsed the last desperate counterattack launched by the Japanese. Here, early on the morning of 29 May 1943, the bloodiest engagement of the Battle of Attu was fought.
There are two Japanese mass graves on/near Engineer Hill.
Declared part of the World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument in November 2008.
