residence, LIGC - Long Island Gold Coast, historical layer / disappeared object

"Kiluna Farm" was designed c. 1910 in the Shingle Farmhouse style by Walker & Gillette on originally 153 acres of land for Ralph Pulitzer, Sr {publisher}. Pulitzer served as publisher of the New York World, president of Press Publishing Co. and vice president of Pulitzer Publishing Co. Mr. Pulitzer commissioned Charles A. Platt to design a swimming pool with bathhouse in 1913 and formal gardens with a circular lily pond with a pagoda. James W. O'Connor also designed a tennis building for the estate.
It was subsequently owned by William S. Paley {capitalist, publisher, financier, industrialist}. Paley served as president and chairman of CBS, chairman of the board of International Herald Tribune, partner of Whitcom Investment Co., founder and director of Genetics Instruments, ad vice president of Congress Cigar Co. He also served as president of the Museum of Modern art and founder of the William S. Paley Foundation. Paley also leased a large apartment on the 10th floor of the St. Regis Hotel in Manhattan.
Paley's second wife Barbara "Babe" Cushing Mortimer oversaw such improvements as adding the elliptical pond in the 1960's, and other landscaping by Russell Page, Thomas Church, Innocenti & Webel, et al. Mr. Paley sold the estate in 1986. After the house burned down around 1993, the Stone Hill development was planned and built through the late 1990's by Edward Klar at a cost of $6mil.
