A Jain heritage site protected by the Archaeological survey of India, Perumal malai boasts two sculptures of theerthankaras and a cut out sculpture of Mahaveera along with a Tamil Brahmi and two Vattezhutthu (rounded tamil script) inscriptions. The site also hosts around rock cut beds and a clean wedge sculpted along the brow of the cave to prevent rain water from the entering the caves. The site can be dated back to 3rd century BC and is one of the important heritage sites around Madurai.
