Poduru History :The name "Poduru” comes from the term “Podu”, which means "forest with small trees". As the forest slowly disappeared and the village extended, it remained
The main occupation is paddy cultivation & agricultural, Others include weaving and tailoring.
In 1900, the “Village Development Society” was established and collected fund to provide roads to the village.
In 1911, members of the village performed a “yagna” for the well being of the village. In 1929, the policy “Gram Panchayti" was established under the rule of the British.
Access. By road: 2 km (1.25 miles) east of Kavitam junction on the Narasapuram – Nidadavole canal road. By rail : 10 km (6 miles) from the Palakollu railway station on the Narasapuram- Vijayawada railway line.
Physical Geography
Rain fall: Annual rain fall 110 cm (43.3 inches)
70 cm (27.6 in) between June and September in the direction of south and west.
36 cm (14.2 in) between September and December in the direction of north and east.
Social services
Dr.Poduri Rama Rao, along with his friend Dr. Raju formed the Osler Hospital in Poduru, near Kavitam. It provided free medical services to the poor. Rao was known for his compassion. Dr. Poduri Krishna Murthy is the successor of these services.
Col Dr D.S.Raju belongs to this village. Col D.S.Raju worked in Indian National Army. He was the personnel Doctor to the great freedom fighter SUBASH CHANDRA BOSE. In memory of Dr.Raju a High school and a Polytechnic was established in this village
