Tenali is a town and a mandal in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh, South India. It has a population of 149,839 (2001 census). It is located 16 miles east of Guntur City. Three canals of the Krishna River flow through Tenali making it a part of the rice bowl of Andhra Pradesh. One of the canals is navigable up to Nizampatnam port. Tenali is a major railway junction connecting Guntur, Vijayawada, Repalle and Chennai.Tenali is known for its rich cultural and literary legacy. It is also very well known as Andhra Paris although the comparison sounds little dubious. It has produced many famous poets, theater artists, scholars, actors and academicians. The great Tenali Ramalinga (also known as Tenali Rama and Tenali Ramakrishna), who was a court-poet of Krishnadeva Raya of the Vijayanagara empire and well known for his wit and impressive Telugu poetry was born in Tumuluru near Tenali in the 16th century.

Tenali has contributed a major share of artists to Telugu stage drama. There are quite a few extraordinary artists who later moved on to film industry such as Savitri, Kanchanamala, Kongara Jaggayya, Gummadi Venkateswara Rao, Jamuna, Sarada, Prabha, Divvya Vani, Rajyalakshmi, Sivaparvathi, Mudigonda Lingamurty, Dr Govindarajula Subba Rao, Vangara Venkata Subbaiah, Nalinikanth, Tenali Sakunthala, Meesala Bhaskar, Ghattamaneni Krishna, A V Satyarayana Rao (AVS) and writer Chinni Krishna.

The list of persons who contributed to culture, literature and knowledge includes 1) Mylavarapu Sreenivasarao, Sanskrit scholor (Ramayana pravachanas). 2) Nori Narayana Murthy (Bhakthi programmes in TV). 3) Dr.P Dakshina Murthy (Well known physician). 4) Chittineni Mrutyunjaya Rao. 5) Gummadi Basava Punnayya (ayurvedic doctor). 6) Burgula Gopala Krishna Murthy, author and mentor for several poets and authors in and around Tenali.

Tenali also gave an excellent scientist to the nation in the form of Dr Y. Nayudamma after whose name the prestigious NAYUDAMMA Award has been instituted. So far many eminent personalities in the country have been awarded with this prestigious award. The award presentation ceremony is held every year in Tenali.

Tenali as explained above is a education centre. Taluk Junior College or more popularly known as Taluk high school is one of the oldest schools in the district, established in 1903. Ramanavami celebrations (vasanta navarathrulu) are well known in AP. It is said that the celebrations are next only to Bhadrachalam. Tenali is home of many greats like Sthanam Narasimha Rao, Maverick film maker Chakrapani and actors like Kanchana Mala.

My Grand mother told me the story of Donga ramudi gudi when I was a kid, It was at the time of British, there was a lot of tension in building that temple and especially on a busy road .Doctor chitti was very much willing to build that temple but find it difficult to do the work at morning times and in strict prohibition. I heard that it was discouraged when ever it was started ,so Dr. chitti build that temple over night and naturally it is difficult to demolish a temple once it is built .And the temple built chori-chori named donga ramudigudi .people of this generation confuse the temple's name chitti as small but it is infact the name of DR.Chitti given to the preciding deity .
