rehabilitation, invisible, coal mine
This is ML1458 which was for the Enhance Place coal mine which was operated by Enhance Place Pty Ltd from 1997 until is closed in June 2005 when all economical coal was extracted. The lease was granted November 29, 1999 with an expiry date of November 28, 2020. The lease has 2 portions consisting of a larger north area and a small south area. The approximate area is 13.98 hectares and the authorized lease holder name is Enhance Place Pty Limited as they were the owner of the mine before Energy Australia purchases Enhance Place in 2012.
Enhace Place Pty was formed in 1997 to recover remnant coal from previously mined open cut areas in the 1950's. Another of Enhances purposes was to rehabilitate those areas when extraction was completed. Part of the rehabilitation activities include surface water control, rehabilitation of land-form with seeding and fertilisation, feral animal and weed control programmes, and fencing of the various public and private land portions.
The Enhance Place Mine extracted coal over the abandoned Eastern Main Underground Mine workings (Eastern Main Mine). The Eastern Main Mine operated as a Bord and Pillar mine until 1975. Mining activities were undertaken by six employees, being augmented for short periods by secondment of maintenance, operating or rehabilitation personnel from other areas of the contractor’s operations as required. All the crushed and screened product coal, - 50 mm, was sold direct to the nearby Wallerawang and Mount Piper Power Stations, and while Enhance operated the mine production was 609, 940 tonnes.
