Located on the former site of the Republic Steel Mill on the shore of the Buffalo River, the Tesla GigaFactory 2 is the largest manufacturing facility of Photo-Voltaic (PV) solar power cells in the Western Hemisphere. With a planned capacity of ten gigawatts of solar panels annually, the facility will house an estimated 1.2 million square feet of production and office space and is slated to employ over 1,000 workers onsite with a further 1,000 employed in ancillary trades servicing the facility. The facility will be closely allied with the SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Albany, NY.

Production began on photovoltaic modules for solar panels in August of 2017 with Tesla solar shingle production commencing in June of 2018.
