invisible, coal mine
Cullen Valley mine is owned by Coalpac Pty Ltd who acquired the assets of the Lithgow Coal Company in February 2008 which included Cullen Valley. The mine extracts the Illawarra coal measures from outcropping areas and the current mining area consists of a central hill with the production area proceeding around the hill in a clockwise direction, mining into the hill to the economic limit of extraction. The typical maximum strip ratio is 5 bcm of waste to 1 tonne of coal; however this is increased in some areas depending on the quality of coal to be mined. The mining lease has consent to produce up to 1 Mtpa but historical production has typically been around 700,000 tonnes per annum.
