The Fortresses, apparently isolated, thus far identified are two – Fortress East-North-East and Fortress East-South-East – both located on the east rampart of the town. The basic standard model of the fortress includes six rooms, two rectangular, and four square in plan, of small size, with massive walls and without doors. In fact, it is quite likely that, in order to enter them, it was necessary to reach the roof with a stone staircase, and to go down into them by means of mobile stairs, of wood or rope. The exclusively defensive function of the fortresses is documented by the finding, in one room of the East-South-East Fortress, of two beautiful spear heads, one with inscription, probably belonging to the weaponry usually kept into the small store-rooms, with limited access for further protection. These fortresses had the twofold function of arsenal for weapons, ready in case of attack to the top of the ramparts, and of viewpoints to the outside, necessary in order to face in advance the arrival of hostile armies.
