In the Lower Town North, the Northern Palace (Area P), nearly 3,500 sqm in size, was built close to Ishtar’s Cult Area, and was probably used mainly for royal ceremonies, which took place in relation with feasts dedicated to Ishtar, the great goddess, adored as patron deity of the town in the adjacent cult area, which certainly was her public sanctuary.
