5-story residential building completed in 1900. Designed by Kurtzer & Rohl, its facade is enlivened by curved, projecting bays of two windows each, extending from the 1st through the 5th floors, and includes a rounded corner bay. Horizontally, the building is divided by a stone band course between the first and second stories and by a boldly projecting cornice above the fourth floor. The surface of the building is enhanced by the contrast of brick and stone in the splayed lintels, with strong terminal blocks and handsome console keystones. Sculptural motifs appear at the doorway, in the panels under the first story windows, and in a delicate band course linking the second story pedimented windows. The ground floor is occupied by Tartine restaurant. A building of nearly the same design was erected next door at 287 West Fourth in 1904-06.
