apartment building, 1830s construction, Greek Revival (architecture)
3.5-story Greek-revival residential building completed in 1837 for Jonathan H. Ransom, a leather and shoe merchant. It is clad in orange brick above a rusticated brownstone basement. It has dormers at the roofline, and a cornice with windows in it. The dignified classic doorway, flanked by pilasters supporting a modillioned entablature, is approached by a low stoop. It has an exceptionally fine decorated transom bar of anthemion (honeysuckle) design. The house was converted to apartments in 1916.
