Six connected 3-story Federal/Greek-revival houses completed in 1854. They were taxed as a single building on a single lot, referred to as 10 1/2 Grove Street, until well into the 20th century. It was not until 1921 that Grove Court took on its present name and appearance, when the lot was subdivided and the six houses sold and altered individually. Grove Court is a pedestrian-only cul-de-sac accessed through a small iron gate between 10 & 12 Grove Street.
The 3-story houses were originally planned for workingmen, and the court was known in the 19th Century as "Mixed Ale Alley," evidently a reference to. the drinking habits of its residents.
