The Gansevoort

USA / New Jersey / Hoboken / Christopher Street, 95
high-rise, Art Deco (architecture), apartment building, 1931_construction

184-foot, 16-story Art-Deco residential building completed in 1931. Designed by Hyman Isaac Feldman, it dominates the corner of Christopher & Bleecker Streets. The ground floor is composed of white-painted stone, with buff-colored brick above. There are wide horizontal band courses between the windows, contrasted with the shallow verticals that extend the height of the building. The mass of the tower is divided into two wings, with a light court and entry between them, facing Christopher Street. The stepped parapet above the front door shows the influence of the French Exposition des Arts Decoratifs. On the Bleecker Street side, the ground floor is occupied by Bread & Pastry Cafe, Satya jewelry, Pinky boutique, Grand Cleaners, Your Neighborhood Office store, and Verve shoes.
