Matri Dham Ashram (Varanasi)

India / Uttar Pradesh / Varanasi

Matri Dham Ashram, literally, the abode of the mother, dedicated to Mother Mary, was set up in 1954, in Varanasi, by the Indian Missionary Society (IMS). It was the novitiate of the IMS for a few years. In 1976, under the efforts of Fr. Dayanand IMS, it evolved into a center for Indian Christian spiritual quest. Fr. Dayanand sowed the first seeds to transform its barren alkaline land into a fertile terrain – both of natural diversity and of spiritual vitality.

In the seventies and eighties, the Asharam evolved into a prominent spiritual rejuvenation center for the Christian religious and priests of the region. During these two decades, Fr. Iswar Prasad IMS and Fr. Vinayanand IMS, contributed their efforts as the Acharyas of the Ashram.

Today, the Ashram is a centre of a mass spiritual-movement of the devotees of Jesus Christ (very specially, of the non-baptized followers of Jesus Christ who are called 'Khrist Bhaktas'). Under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Anil Dev IMS, the Ashram caters to the spiritual needs of a large number of devotees exceeding fourty five thousand.
