Andrews Hotel

USA / New Jersey / Hoboken / Bowery, 197

9-story hotel originally completed in about 1900 as a 6-story tenement. It later became the Andrews Hotel, one of dozens of flophouses that lines the Bowery in the 20th century. As late as 2002, rooms went for only $9 a night. The building was renovated in 2008, and three additional floors were added, set back from the building line. The original section is faced in red brick above a 2-story storefront that was installed in the early 1900s. The fourth and sixth-story windows culminated in segmented arches. The added floors have larger glass windows with aluminum spandrels between them.
