office building, 1894_construction, Renaissance Revival (architecture)

7-story Renaissance-revival office building completed in 1894. Designed by John T. Williams as a warehouse, it has a 2-story sandstone base, with a 6-bay orange brick facade above. The base is painted with alternating bands of rust-red and white, and "VILLAGE VOICE" below the base's bracketed cornice. The upper floors are divided in half by the brick piers, with smaller sub-piers diving the bays. The windows have brownstone lintels and paneled spandrels between the floors. The facade is topped by a bracketed iron roof cornice with dentils and rosettes, with a brick parapet above. A tall round water tower is on the roof.

In 1933, the building was occupied as a showroom and factory. Later, it was owned and occupied by the Hartz Mountain Corp., makers of pet care products. The building is now occupied by offices of the Village Voice newspaper.
