apartment building, 1870s construction
5-story Neo-Grec residential building completed in 1878. Designed by John M. Forster as a tenement, the 4-bay facade is clad in brick, painted over in dark red. The ground floor has an early storefront with cast-iron elements and large show windows. The upper floor windows have projecting stone sills with corbelled feet. On the 2nd floor, they are topped by triangular pediments, and have metal cornices on the other floors. Star-plated tie rods also appear along the first through 4th floors. The building is crowned by a prominent, white, bracketed roof cornice with modillions and dentils, and has a red metal fire escape in the center. The ground floor is occupied by John Masters Organics.
