4-story Jewish synagogue originally completed around 1870 as a commercial building. The original facade was replaced sometime after 1900, with a smooth-stuccoed one, painted beige. It is three bays wide with simple window openings and a ground floor faced in white stone with paired wooden doors in each bay. The windows were replaced with stained glass when the building was converted to a synagogue. The Wall Street Synagogue, an Orthodox congregation, was founded in 1929. On the roof is a 12- by 20-foot replica of the humble cabin that housed Congregation Shearith Israel, on South William Street, preserving in three dimensions the memory of New York's earliest synagogue.
