mill, NRHP - National Register of Historic Places, 1872_construction
The Merchants Maufacturing Company was founded in 1866 with a mill between Pleasant and Bedford Streets. It was expanded to a second attached mill, and in 1893 it added a third mill, the extant Crescent Mill (built 1872) across Pleasant Street.
The original mills were destroyed by fire in 1940, but the Crescent Mill is still standing; it was added to the NRHP in 1983. The original site was home for many years to a car dealership and a smaller, modern mill. Both have since closed in recent years.
