high-rise, apartment building, 1973_construction, Modern (architecture)

300-foot, 33-story modernist residential building completed in 1973. Designed by Frost Associates, it is owned and operated by St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital to house residents and other staff. The slab tower rises up from a small plaza base at ground level on the east side, and a 1-story concrete podium at the west (partially due to the site sloping down to the west). The rear side on 60th Street has a chain-link gate in front of a parking ramp, and fencing above the wall of the podium at the west end. The fencing continues around the west and south sides of the podium. There is an entrance to the underground parking garage on 59th Street. The pedestrian entrance is through the plaza on the east.

The north and south facades are concrete, each with two bays of single-windows near the center. The wider west and east facades have a black metal-and-glass curtain wall at the lower two floors (recessed between concrete piers) and extending around the edges of both facades, framing the projecting main portion of the facades, which are clad in light-brown brick with 16 bays of single-windows.
