698 Tenth Avenue

USA / New Jersey / West New York / Tenth Avenue, 698
 condominium, 1873_construction

6-story modernist residential building originally completed in 1873 as part of a row of matching 5-story residential buildings lining the full blockfront on Tenth Avenue. Although the other buildings mostly retain their original appearance on the upper floors, No. 698 was rebuilt and given a new facade in 2007, when it was converted to a condominium.

It is clad in pale orange brick with grey stone bands between each floor. The ground floor has glass double-doors at the south end, topped by a transom. To the left is a glass-and-metal storefront with a glass door and a signband. The upper floors have wide double-windows in the north bay, and narrower double-windows in the south bay, with metal air-conditioning vents below the windows in both bays. There is a silver metal railing at the roof line, and a mechanical penthouse on the roof.
