890th "Echis" Airborne Battalion

890th "Echis" Airborne Battalion , also known as rattlesnake Battalion , is the first IDF paratroop battalion. It was established in 1950 by Yehuda Harari and takes his place as a fighting force with a significant lead Merge Unit 101 into it. For years, the IDF called "battalion", without having need to even specify the number.

The battalion's first commander was Ariel Sharon. Early '50s to the present battalion participated in all the battles of the Paratroopers Brigade including retaliatory attacks, drop in a sling, fighting the Chinese Farm, Lebanon and other wars.
