Nablus is a Roman-built city and it is one of the oldest cities in the world. Its name came from the Greek Neapolis or "new city" built on the ruins of the biblical Shekhem. The city lies along a narrow and fertile valley running roughly East-West between two mountains, Ebal and Gerizim. The entire Nablus district has about 205,400 inhabitants. Nablus is famous for its architecture, its delicious Knafe, olive oil, cheese and soap.
