Camp Asaf - Kfir Training Base
900th "Kfir"/"Young Lion" Infantry Brigade
This camp is essentially only for Brigade Training and HQ Garrison purposes. Battalions are operatively attached to the regional brigades of the West Bank (Territorial) Division throughout the West Bank (details below).
The Kfir Brigade (Hebrew: חֲטִיבַת כְּפִיר), also known as the 900th Brigade, is one of the youngest Infantry Corps brigade in the Israel Defense Forces. It is subordinate to the 162nd Division (Utzvat HaPlada) in the Central regional command. The brigade is currently deployed in the West Bank where its mission includes counter-terrorist operations, arrests of Palestinian militants, patrols, manning checkpoints and regular security activities.
The Designated Infantry Battalions (known as the "90s Battalions") were founded in the 1990s as an accompanying force to mobile infantry. On December 6, 2005, the brigade was formally established with the 90s Battalions unified into a single, regular service brigade commanded by Colonel Eyal Nosovski. Although the brigade is subordinate to the 162nd Division, each battalion is operationally attached to a regional brigade in the West Bank (Territorial) Division a separate component of the Central Command.
In order to attract recruits to the brigade, the IDF decided that in order to join Sayeret Oketz (Special Canine unit) or Sayeret LOTAR (Special counter terrorism unit) one must choose Kfir as their first priority in the draft request form and during Tironut go through a selection. Those who don't pass the selection process serve in Kfir Brigade.
