Makaryevsky mining camp was founded in 1891. It consisted of mines No. 3 and No. 4/4-bis. Since 1894 - a subject of the Belgian anonymous company of Rykovsky mines. In 1904 became the property of Ekaterininsky mining company. In 1908, huge explosion of methane occured in the mine number 4/4-bis. 273 people were killed. In 1920, after another accident, the mine has been stopped.

In 1926, the mine village (population 3850 people) attached to Stalino (Donetsk). Mine No. 3 became a part of the trust Stalinugol. In 1939, the development of ground water flooded the mine. The company has not been restored. At the former mine yard created Repair Base (now it's DonERM Factory).

In 1942-43. pit of mine No. 4-4 became a mass grave for the tens of thousands of city residents who were executed by the fascist invaders.
