From the Oval Plaza, a staircase leads up to the sacred precinct (temenos) of the Temple of Zeus, which was built in 162 AD and stands on ruins of earlier sacred sites . Another staircase led to the temple itself, which was surrounded by 15 m high Corinthian columns.
