abandoned settlement, historic ruins
Possible site of the Raymond P. Smith ranch. Aerial views taken in 1967 and 1978 show numerous buildings were once located here.
Smith bought 160 acres of land in Potrero Valley in 1957. It was first used as an adult camp and, later, as a boys' camp. Smith sued Lockheed Propulsion Company, which acquired the former Grand National Rocket Company's holdings in the valley, claiming that the vibrations from a May 1962 solid fuel rocket motor test fire destroyed his well by shearing the casing and rendered his water undrinkable.
