Former Bell Telephone headquarters which was designed by Voorhees, Walker, Foley & Smith with ironwork by Samuel Yellin. On November 17, 1947, Walter Brattain dumped his whole experiment into a thermos of water. Out of the blue, the wet device created the largest amplification he'd seen so far because the water eliminated surface effects that had frustrated the team of leader William Shockley and future winner of two Nobel Prizes in physics. This breakthrough resulted in the invention of the revolutionary invention of the transistor.
