Tunica Lake forms the border between Arkansas and Mississippi. It was once the main Mississippi channel around Hardin Point until the Army Corps of Engineers dug the cut-off in 1942 as part of the grand plan to straighten out the river to improve navigation. This caused the silting and the land merged with the Mississippi shore although the lake remains the state boundary.
