This is the only diamond mine on the North American continent, and the only one in the world that is open to the public. The 911-acre state park that includes and surrounds the mine is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), and is also designated a Class III Natural Monument or Feature by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

  • There are other mines open to the public, but this is the only one that is "finders keepers". You pay around $6 and you can search the green clay in the area for diamonds. Usually they are off color or cloudy, but the only diamond in the US certified 0/0/0 was found there within the last decade. It was bought by the park / state of Arkansas for reportedly 35K. It was just over a carat. Nice place to camp.
