The "top camp" for the unfinished Sitkinak Air Force Station was located here. It was to be both an Aircraft & Warning (AC&W)early warning radar station and White Alice tropospheric communication site. Along with the radar site at Cape Chiniak, Sitkinak was placed in stand-by status with live-in caretakers in 1957; their coverage areas were taken over by the AC&W site on Middleton Island. The White Alice site was made redundant by the Aleutian chain extension. It would have linked with the WACS site on Pillar Mountain, Kodiak Island. FPS-3A / FPS-20 and FPS-6 radars were planned for the AC&W radar station.
