First settled in 1890 as Fontana. In 1892 Fontana had a newspaper, two churches, two general stores, a sawmill, a gritsmill, and a steam gin. In 1892 the name was changed to Harleton named after J.W. Harle. In 1904 a school district was established and the town had a bank. In 1941 Harleton had 41 businesses and 500 people. In 1945 the population began to diminish. It is now unincorporated but is a bit like a small town.
