Notes: Located at milepost 27.3 of Steese Highway, the Historic Fairbanks Exploration Company Gold Camp was built between 1923-25, It was the original bunkhouse and eatery for the men working on Gold Dredge No. 3 in Chatanika. This dredge can still be seen just off the highway about 1 mile from the camp. Between 1926 and 1957 it is estimated that $70 million dollars was removed by the F.E. Gold Co. in the Chatanika area where, during this period there lived over 10,000 people making it larger than Fairbanks.
