Bricken Casino Building (New York City, New York)

407-foot, 35-story Art-Deco wedding-cake-style office building completed in 1931. Designed by Ely Jacques Kahn, it is clad in white and black brick above a 4-story black granite and brass base. The Broadway facade has five bays, and the north facade on 39th Street spans seven bays. The main entrance is in the middle bay on Broadway, framed in brass, with a revolving door flanked by two regular doors, and covered by a sloping glass canopy. The other bays have storefronts, except for the easternmost bay on 39th Street, which has a freight entrance with garage door. On the 2nd-3rd floors, each bay has a tripartite window flanked by single-windows, with brass framing and spandrels, except for the center bay which has four single-windows. The 4th floor has four single-windows in every bay.

On the upper floors, the black brick of the spandrels (with narrow strips of white brick stripes at the edges) contrast sharply with the white brick of the piers. There are also three black brick horizontal stripes across the 5th floor. Each bay has three single-windows. The tiers of crisp, sharp-edged setbacks on the upper floors begin above the 17th floor at the south half of the west facade, and the east half of the north facade. Moving toward the north and the west, there are two additional small, stair-stepping setbacks spaced 1.5-bays apart, and a final setback at this tier at the corner bay. The outer edge of each setback is angled back toward the previous setback, creating a modern, angular look to the facade. There are additional grouped tiers of setbacks as the building narrows to its peak, where the 2-story crown rises abruptly with angled fins at the corners.

The ground floor is occupied by Q Tee Gift Shop, Broadway Hi-Tronics wireless & electronics, Hale & Hearty restaurant, Pret-a-Manger restaurant, Artichoke Basille's Pizza, and Danel Shoe Repair.
